This gene encodes a member of the annexin family. Members of this calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein family play a role in the regulation of cellular growth and in signal transduction pathways. This protein functions as an autocrine factor which heightens osteoclast formation and bone resorption. This gene has three pseudogenes located on chromosomes 4, 9 and 10, respectively. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Annexin A2 expression has been found to correlate with resistance to treatment against various cancer forms.

RBN-2397 selectively inhibits PARP-7 and demonstrates >50-fold selectivity for inhibition of PARP-7 over all PARP family members as measured by biochemical assays. RBN-2397 inhibits PARP-7-dependent MARylation IC50 = 2nM in cell biochemical assay and inhibits cells proliferation in NCI-H1373 lung cancer cells IC50 = 20nM. SP600125 is an orally active, reversible and ATP-competitive broad-spectrum JNK inhibitor for JNK1, JNK2 and JNK3 IC50 = 40nM, 40nM and 90nM, respectively. In Jurkat T cells, SP600125 suppressed the phosphorylation of c-Jun with IC50 of 5-10 µM. It has 10-fold greater selectivity against MKK4, 25-fold greater selectivity against MKK3, MKK6, PKB and PKCalpha, and 100-fold selectivity against ERK2, p38, Chk1, EGFR.
