Lipid droplets (LDs) are organelles that were originally thought to serve as a lipid storage unit, until a recent study showing that LDs play an important role in regulating lipid metabolism, autophagy, and cellular senescence. Therefore, LDs have gained great attention as an important tool to elucidate the mechanisms of their formation, growth, fusion, and retraction. Lipi-Series can be used to stain lipid droplets in both live and fixed cells. Moreover, Lipi-Series provides an efficient stain for lipid droplets which are compatible with the simultaneous use of such as green fluorescent proteins (GFP) or other reporters in multiple-color live cell imaging. If the final concentration is prepared at the lowest dye concentration for cell staining, the Lipi series is equivalent to approximately fifty 35mm dishes.
