Thonzonium bromide is an antibacterial agent and a monocationic surface-active agent. It inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclast formation and bone resorption in vitro, and prevents LPS-induced bone loss in vivo. This compound also inhibits proton transport in a dose-dependent manner (EC50=69 μM).
- Antibacterial agent.
- Monocationic surface-active agent.
- Inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclast formation and bone resorption in vitro.
- Prevents LPS-induced bone loss in vivo.
- Inhibits proton transport in a dose-dependent manner (EC50=69 μM).
- Blocks RANKL-induced activation of NF-κB, ERK, and c-Fos, as well as NFATc1 induction.
- Disrupts F-actin ring formation, causing disturbances in cytoskeletal structure in mature osteoclasts during bone resorption.
- Exhibits protective effects in an in vivo murine model of LPS-induced calvarial osteolysis.
