Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract Agar with Polymyxin B, Anisomycin, and Vancomycin (BCYE-PAV) is a selective, non-differential medium for the isolation of Legionella species. L-cysteine HCl, ferric pyrophosphate and alpha-ketoglutarate provide nutrients required by Legionella species. Activated charcoal decomposes hydrogen peroxide, which is a toxic metabolic biproduct, while also collecting CO2 and modifying surface tension of the media. ACES buffer helps maintain the proper pH for optimal growth. Polymyxin B, Anisomycin, and vancomycin are selective agents added to suppress background flora present in samples and enhance the recovery of L. pneumophila. • Product meets CLSI, EPA, CDC, ISO, and SMWW reference methods and performance criteria.• BCYE-PAV should be used by trained professionals within a laboratory setting. • For in vitro diagnostic (IVD) use.• Product is not intended for use in the diagnosis or treatment of disease or other human conditions.
