Modified Oxford Agar is a selective and differential medium used in the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes in food samples. Modified Oxford Medium contains moxalactam, which inhibits staphylococci, bacilli, and Proteus species, and colistin sulfate to inhibit gram-negative bacilli.) Selectivity is enhanced by lithium chloride which negatively affects the growth of enterococci.
