S2Media™ TCBS (Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose) Agar is a selective and differential culture medium used for the isolation and cultivation of Vibrio species. Its high pH (8.5–9.5) inhibits non-Vibrio intestinal flora. Bile salts suppress gram-positive bacteria. Sodium chloride supports halophilic Vibrio growth. Sodium thiosulfate and ferric citrate detect hydrogen sulfide. Sucrose with pH indicators differentiates species. V. cholerae ferments sucrose, forming yellow-brown colonies, while V. parahaemolyticus produces bluish colonies. Some Proteus and enterococci strains may form small yellow colonies but are easily distinguished.• Product meets AOAC, BAM, CLSI, ISO, and SMWW, USF-NF performance criteria.• TCBS should be used by trained professionals within a laboratory setting. • For in vitro diagnostic (IVD) use.• Product is not intended for use in the diagnosis or treatment of disease or other human conditions.
