Malt Extract Agar (MEA) with Lecithin and Tween 80 is a selective and non-differential medium used for the isolation, cultivation, and enumeration of yeasts and molds. MEA was first described by Thom and Church in 1926 in a study of Aspergillus spp. claiming the high carbohydrate content ensured rapid growth. Lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds and polysorbate 80 neutralizes substituted phenolic disinfectants. Contact plates are utilized for environmental monitoring of surfaces of sanitary importance and other applications.• Product meets BAM and USP-NF reference methods and performance criteria.• MEA w/LT should be used by trained professionals within a laboratory setting. • Product is not intended for use in the diagnosis or treatment of disease or other human conditions.
