One-step TUNEL Cy3 Apoptosis Detection Kit can be used to detect nuclear DNA fragmentation occurring in tissues or cells during apoptosis Cellular DNA endonucleases are activated during apoptosis which cleave genomic DNA between nucleosomes yielding DNA fragments of approximately 180 - 200 bp or their multiples The resulting DNA fragments have exposed 3 -OH ends which can be labeled with a fluorescein-modified dUTP under the action of Terminal Deoxynucleotidyl Transferase (TdT) These labeled DNA fragments can then be detected using fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry (Ex/Em) of 550 nm/570 nm This detection kit has a wide range of applications and can be used to assay apoptosis in frozen sections or paraffin-embedded tissue sections as well as cultured adherent or suspended cells
