One-step TUNEL Cy5 Apoptosis Detection Kit is designed for detecting cell nuclear DNA fragmentation in tissues or cells undergoing apoptosis During apoptosis intracellular DNA endonucleases are activated cleaving genomic DNA between nucleosomes and resulting in DNA fragmentation into segments approximately 180-200 bp or multiples thereof The fragmented genomic DNA contains exposed 3 -OH ends which are labeled with fluorescent-tagged dUTP in a TdT (Terminal Deoxynucleotidyl Transferase) catalyzed reaction allowing visualization and detection by fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry (Ex/Em 649 nm/670 nm) This kit has a broad range of applications and can be utilized to detect apoptosis in frozen or paraffin-embedded tissue sections as well as in cultured adherent or suspension cells
