20X SSC is a common buffer used in a variety of molecular biology applications. It is a clear, colorless solution made up of molecular biology grade 3.0 M NaCl and 0.3 M sodium citrate at pH 7.0. The solution is filtered through a 0.2 filter into a DNase/RNase free bottles. 20X SSC can be used to facilitate transfer of nucleic acids to membranes in Southern and Northern blotting, dot blotting, and colony and plaque lifts.
