Saline-Sodium Citrate (SSC) Concentrate can be used in protocols for Southern blotting, in situ hybridization, DNA Microarray or Northern blottings. SSC provides high ionic strength to optimize the rate of probe annealing to the target nucleic acid. SSC is used in hybridization cocktails containing DNA and RNA probes for the analysis of unknown sequences and to locate desired genes and gene fragments. SSC is also used to control stringency for washing steps during in situ hybridization. Packet of salts yields 250mL of 20X SSC buffer. Alternative name: Saline-Sodium Citrate.
