It has an anhydride group that bonds with dental metal substrates and the methacrylate group that polymerizes and copolymerizes with monomeric composite resin.4-Methacryloxyethyl trimellitic anhydride (4-META) is a methacylate monomer most commonly used as an adhesion promoter in dental resins. 4-META contains both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups, promoting the diffusion of other dental resin monomers into the tooth structure to form a hybrid, resin-impregnated layer.
