ELISA

The 5 Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid (5 HIAA) ELISA quantitates 5 HIAA in serum, plasma and other biological fluids. Principle of the method The Competitive Gastrin (GT) ELISA research use only kit is designed to quantitatively measure GT in Humans. A GT standard is provided to generate a standard curve for the assay and all samples are read off a user generated standard curve. Standards or diluted samples are pipetted into a coated microtiter plate and Biotinylated Detection Ab specific to Human GT is added. Excess conjugate and unbound sample or standard are washed from the plate, and Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each well and incubated. Then a TMB substrate solution is added to each well. The enzyme substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of stop solution and the color change is measured on a microplate reader. The concentration of Human GT in the samples is then determined by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve. Rigorous validation: Each manufactured lot of this ELISA kit is quality tested for criteria such as sensitivity, specificity, precision, and lot-to-lot consistency. See manual for more information on validation. For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.

5-Hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) is the primary metabolite of serotonin (5-HT) and serves as a key marker for serotonin metabolism. As a more stable compound than serotonin, 5-HIAA is often measured in clinical settings to assess serotonin production and turnover. This measurement typically involves analyzing urine or plasma samples. Elevated levels of 5-HIAA in the urine can indicate various conditions such as carcinoid tumors, which are known to secrete large amounts of serotonin. Additionally, 5-HIAA has been implicated in inflammatory processes, notably acting as a potent ligand for the GPR35 receptor to promote neutrophil recruitment to inflamed tissues. The presence of 5-HIAA in cerebrospinal fluid is also used as a biomarker in neurological diseases impacting dopaminergic and serotoninergic pathways, although its levels can be influenced by age and other factors. The clinical relevance of 5-HIAA underscores its utility in diagnosing and monitoring various health conditions, particularly those involving serotonin dysregulation.
