8-Epidiosbulbin E acetate is a furanoid abundant in Dioscorea bulbifera L.. It demonstrates broad-spectrum plasmid-curing activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. Intended for research use only, it can also be utilized in animal modeling to create liver injury models. Its hepatotoxicity is attributed to an electrophilic intermediate generated by metabolic activation of the furan ring, mediated by cytochromes P450, primarily damaging hepatic cells through aberrant regulation of bile acid metabolism, and taurine and hypotaurine metabolism.
