This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by a 40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins are part of the SCF (SKP1-cullin-F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, which is involved in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. F-box proteins are classified into three types: Fbws (with WD-40 domains), Fbls (with leucine-rich repeats), and Fbxs (with various protein interaction modules). The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the Fbls class and contains an F-box and 10 tandem leucine-rich repeats. It is essential for the cyclin A-CDK2 S-phase kinase, recognizing phosphorylated CDKN1B (p27/KIP1) in S phase and interacting with SKP1. This gene is a protooncogene involved in lymphoma pathogenesis. Alternative splicing generates three transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
