Caspase-1 inhibitor. The YVAD-CHO portion of this peptide is a highly-specific, potent (Ki=1 nM) and reversible inhibitor of caspase-1 (interleukin-1β converting enzyme, ICE), whose sequence is based on the pre-interleukin-1β Asp-116 cleavage site for caspase-1. The sequence linked N-terminal to YVAD-CHO (residues 1-16) has been shown to enhance cell permeability. Alternative name: Caspase 1 inhibitor . Formula: C97H160N20O24. MW: 1990.5. Measure indicator(s) of apoptosis at a number of time points, since the effect of the inhibitor may be a delay in the onset of apoptosis, rather than permanent inhibition. It may also be helpful to determine a minimum effective concentration for the apoptosis inducer and use that concentration, when attempting to observe the effects of this peptide.
