ADP-Glucose disodium is an immediate precursor for the biosynthesis of storage polysaccharides in plants, green algae, and cyanobacteria, and structural polysaccharides in some bacteria, through the addition of glucose. It is utilized to produce amylose, amylopectin, starch, and other polysaccharides by amylose synthase or starch synthase in plastids. ADPG is typically produced in plastids, though it can also be biosynthesized in the cytoplasm of certain grasses and imported into plastids by membrane-bound transporters.
- Precursor for polysaccharide biosynthesis
- Utilized in production of amylose, amylopectin, and starch
- Soluble in H2O at 35 mg/mL or greater
- Recommended storage at -20°C, sealed, away from moisture
- Recommended storage in solvent at -80°C for 6 months or -20°C for 1 month
