AER-271 is a phosphonate prodrug derivative that selectively inhibits aquaporin-4 (AQP4). Converted in vivo to the active AQP4 antagonist by endogenous phosphatases, it has increased aqueous solubility and is used in preclinical research to prevent early cerebral edema after ischemic or asphyxial injury.
- Selective aquaporin-4 (AQP4) inhibitor for preclinical research.
- Phosphonate prodrug design increases water solubility versus the parent compound.
- Shown to reduce early cerebral edema and improve early neurological outcome in animal models.
- Available as a 10 mM solution in DMSO (1 mL) and in multiple solid pack sizes for experimental use.
