ω-Agatoxin IVA TFA is a potent and selective blocker of P/Q type Ca2+ (Cav2.1) channels. It exhibits IC50s of 2 nM for P-type and 90 nM for Q-type Ca2+ channels. The compound inhibits glutamate exocytosis and calcium influx, as well as the release of serotonin and norepinephrine, when elicited by high potassium. It does not affect L-type or N-type calcium channels.
