A model for HIV-1 detection without the use of blood
Simulates the screening for antibodies against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1). Enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) is currently used for initial clinical screening of the blood supply for HIV-1. Students add simulated HIV antigen to wells in the microtiter plate and follow it with washing and introduction of simulated antibodies of HIV-1 positive or negative samples. A second antibody is added which binds to the first antibody of HIV-1 positive samples and results in a color change.
Note: some kit contents may need to be redeemed by mail.
