Description
AIN-76C diet with antioxidant added to the corn oil. AIN-76 diet was made to stabilize the mice diet and increase animal growth, appearance and survival. The addition of sucrose causes a cascading effect in mice that lead to poorer health. Antioxidants are added to the corn oil to increase health of subjects. Investigators should be aware that the most popular brands of corn oil have no added antioxidant and that the endogenous tocopherols are not very effective in stabilizing the oil when it is mixed into purified diets. This diet contains 500 μg/kg menadione sodium bisulfite, BHT (Butylated Hydroxy Toluene), 0.02% per gram of oil.
