PBS (phosphate buffered saline) is a pH-adjusted blend of ultrapure-grade phosphate buffers and saline solutions.

PBS (phosphate buffered saline) is a pH-adjusted blend of ultrapure-grade phosphate buffers and saline solutions which, when diluted to a 1X working concentration, contains 137 mM NaCl, 2.7 mM KCl, 8 mM Na₂HPO₄, and 2 mM KH₂PO₄. Each 10X PBS solution is ready to use upon dilution to the desired concentration. This molecular biology-grade PBS is certified RNase-free; it is rigorously tested for contaminating nonspecific endonuclease, exonuclease, and RNase activity.

Is a precipitate in PBS (Cat. No. AM9624, AM9625) normal?

It is normal to see a precipitate in PBS (Cat. No. AM9624, AM9625) after exposure to low temperatures. The crystals will go into solution at room temperature with occasional agitation. Please ensure that no precipitate remains before using the PBS solution.

Are your PBS products tested for endotoxin levels?

Our PBS, pH 7.2 and PBS, pH 7.4 products are tested for endotoxin and the endotoxin levels are shown on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for the particular lot number of the product.

Are your PBS products sterile and suitable for cell culture?

We offer PBS - Phosphate-Buffered Saline (10X) pH 7.4, RNase-free (Cat. Nos. AM9624 and AM9625), which is molecular biology grade and is certified to be RNase-free. However, it is not sterile and hence is not cell culture-grade.

All our other PBS products (Cat. Nos. 70011xxx, 10010xxx, 70013xxx, 20012xxx) are filter-sterilized using a 0.1 µm filter and are cell culture grade (ready to use directly on cells). However, they are not tested for nuclease activity.

Are your PBS products DNase- and RNase-free?

We offer PBS - Phosphate-Buffered Saline (10X) pH 7.4, RNase-free (Cat. Nos. AM9624 and AM9625) that is molecular biology grade and is certified to be RNase-free. Our other PBS products are made with distilled water and are filter-sterilized, but are not tested for RNase and DNase activity.
