Angular Momentum Apparatus

Description
- The masses on the demonstrator are removable, allowing for a greater range of demonstrations
- The rod may be used with one of the movable masses to demonstrate a center of gravity paradox, where the rod is easier to balance with the mass extended to the far end of the rod and balanced up in the air
- With two of the masses placed on the rod, angular momentum can be “felt” by rotating the rod with the masses near the center, and then apart on the ends
- Helps to understand the classic “ice skater's spin”
- With three masses on the rod, students can mathematically calculate the necessary positions of the masses to allow the center of gravity to be determined at a given point
- Helps to visualize counterbalance
