CD7, also known as gp40, is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It plays a role in T cell interactions and also in T cell/B cell interaction during early lymphoid development. CD7 co-stimulation can induce cytokine secretion and modulate cellular adhesion. CD7 is found on T cells, NK cells, thymocytes, and hematopoietic progenitors, and weakly on monocytes. CD7 is also expressed on acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and some acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells.
