The disease was first identified in 1967 when outbreaks occurred simultaneously in Marburg and Frankfurt, Germany, as well as in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia).Marburg virus is transmitted to humans from animals, with bats believed to be the natural reservoir. The virus can be transmitted between humans through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of infected individuals.
