Description
- How the kit works:
- In this experiment, benzoic acid is prepared by the Grignard method. The Grignard reagent is first carboxylated by reaction with dry ice to form the target carboxylic acid. After the reaction is complete, hot water is added to remove any remaining solvent, and acid is added to dissolve the magnesium salts and liberate the benzoic acid, which is then collected upon cooling
- Kit Includes:
- 1 x 5 g Magnesium Metal Turnings
- 2 x 25 mL Tetrahydrofuran
- 1 x 20 mL Bromobenzene
- 1 x 25 mL Hydrochloric Acid, 36°C
