Description
- Simulate a sanitary landfill and an open-air dumpyard to explore the advantages of a landfill while observing decomposition in both aerobic and anaerobic environments.
- This kit contains enough materials for 8 groups of students and comes with a Teacher's manual and Student Study Guide Copymaster.
- The activity covers AP Environmental Science primary learning objectives STB-3.K and STB-3.L.
- It will take a total of 2 to 3 hours, with over a 5-day wait time to complete this activity (Day 1: 1.5 to 2 hours, Days 2 through 5+: 10 to 15 minutes each).
The kit contains:
- Soil, 3000 cm3
- 10 Plastic Cups, 9 oz.
- 8 Plastic Jars with Lids
- Cotton Fabric 3 x 6 in.
- 8 Starch Packing Peanuts
- 32 Paper Squares
- 4 Straws
- 16 Aluminum Squares
Needed but not supplied:
- Graduated Cylinders, 25 mL
- Markers (for labeling)
- Metric Rulers
- Scissors or Razor
- Leaves, Bread, Fruit, etc., are optional (for additional organic waste sources)
