Apramycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing the initiation complex formation and leading to misreading of the mRNA. This interference disrupts the translation process and inhibits bacterial growth. 

Commonly used in microbiology to selectively isolate bacteria that are sensitive to this antibiotic. It is also used in antibiotic sensitivity testing to determine the susceptibility of bacterial strains. Its resistance genes are used as selectable markers in genetic engineering. Cells expressing the resistance gene can survive and proliferate in the presence of Apramycin, allowing for the selection of transfected or transduced cells. 

Apramycin Sulfate is a valuable tool for selective bacterial isolation, antibiotic sensitivity testing, and selecting cells with specific genetic modifications in molecular biology experiments.
