Aripiprazole lauroxil is an N-acyloxymethyl proagent of Aripiprazole and functions as a Long-acting injectable (LAI) typical antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia. It acts as a ligand of dopamine receptor D2R/D4R. This compound is designed to be cleaved by the body's enzyme esterase, initially converting Aripiprazole lauroxil into N-hydroxymethyl aripiprazole and lauric acid. Subsequently, N-hydroxymethyl aripiprazole is further converted to aripiprazole and formaldehyde, with no reported toxicity.
