Bafilomycin A1 is a macrolide antibiotic initially produced by Streptomyces that exhibits anti-parasitic, antimalarial, and anticancer chemotherapeutic activities. Bafilomycin A1 inhibits the vacuolar H+ ATPase and suppresses autophagy. Bafilomycin kills Plasmodium parasites in cellular models, and separately, induces cell death and suppresses tumor growth in animal models of breast cancer.
