BCl-2 (B-cell lymphoma 2), encoded in humans by the BCl-2 gene, is thefounding member of the BCl-2 family of regulator proteins that regulate celldeath, by either inducing it (pro-apoptotic) or inhibiting it (anti-apoptotic) (1).BCl-2 is specifically considered as an important anti-apoptotic protein and is thusclassified as an oncogene. BCL-2 alpha expression inhibits the programmed celldeath (apoptosis). BCL-2 protein express levels increases in most follicularlymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers, whereas the normal or hyperplasticgerminal centers are negative. Bcl-2 marker is significant in differentiatingfollicular lymphoma from reactive follicular proliferation (bcl-2 negative). Inaddition, bcl-2 has been shown to be correlated with disease prognosis in breastcancer, prostate cancer, ovarian (2).
