p,p'-DDD is an organochlorine insecticide and a major metabolite of p,p'-DDT. It acts as an agonist at estrogen receptor α (ERα) and ERβ, and increases DNA damage, apoptosis, and necrosis in peripheral blood. It stimulates cell proliferation in SKBR3 cells, activates the AP-1 transcription factor, and has been shown to decrease sleep times of barbiturates and steroids in rats.
