Beta-glucuronidase is a glycosyl hydrolase that hydrolyzes β-glucuronic acid and sulfate esters in urine and other biological fluids, releasing β-glucuronate. The deficiency of Beta-glucuronidase causes mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (MPSVII), leading to lysosomal storage in the brain. This enzyme has a specific activity of 2.5 KU/mg protein.

  • Glycosyl hydrolase activity
  • Hydrolyzes β-glucuronic acid and sulfate esters
  • Associated with mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (MPSVII)
  • Molecular weight of approximately 290 kDa (tetramer) and 68 kDa (monomer)
  • Specific activity of 2.5 KU/mg protein
  • Optimum pH range of 6.0–7.0
