It has a wide and intense quenching range from 560-670 nm, making it useful as an acceptor in fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) applications with orange to far-red emitting dyes. The NHS ester can be used to label primary amines (-NH2) of proteins, amine-modified oligonucleotides, and other amine-containing molecules.
