Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analog that reduces intraocular pressure by regulating scleral and trabecular outflow. It is used in the study of open-angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and other forms of glaucoma. Topical application of bimatoprost can induce fat atrophy and cause a deepening of the eyelid sulcus. In vitro studies show that Bimatoprost dose-dependently upregulates the mRNA levels of cellular matrix metalloproteinases MMP1 and MMP14 in human trabecular meshwork (TM), iris fibroblasts (SF), and ciliary muscle (CM) cells.
