Alpha-Bungarotoxin is a potent inhibitor for the motor endplate acetylcholine receptor (AChR) (Kd = 1 nM to 1 pM). Biotinylated α-bungarotoxin is useful in the affinity column isolation of the nicotinic AChR using an avidin or streptavidin agarose. Nicotinic AChR labeled with biotin-XX-α-bungarotoxin can be localized using enzyme or fluorophore-labeled conjugates of avidin or streptavidin. Alpha-Bungarotoxin is also available unlabeled or conjugated to next-generation fluorescent CF dyes.
