BMS-191095 is a selective activator of mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium (mitoKATP) channels, inhibiting human platelet aggregation by opening mitochondrial K(ATP) channels. It induces mitochondrial depolarization of vascular smooth muscle (VSM) cells and dose-dependently induces vasodilation in endothelium-denuded cerebral arteries. BMS-191095 also reduces neuronal damage in rats with transient focal cerebral ischemia.
- Induces mitochondrial depolarization of vascular smooth muscle (VSM) cells.
- Dose-dependently induces vasodilation in endothelium denuded cerebral arteries.
- Increases the frequency of calcium sparks in VSM cells.
- Inhibits human platelet aggregation induced by collagen and thrombin.
- Reduces neuronal damage in rats with transient focal cerebral ischemia.
- Reduces total infarct volume and induces rapid mitochondrial depolarization in rats with ischemia.
