Ilex Life Sciences FGF-2 (FGF-basic) Bovine (147 aa), E. coli Recombinant Protein (10 ug). DESCRIPTION: FGF-2 Bovine, E. coli Recombinant (147 aa), or truncated Fibroblast Growth Factor 2, is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain with 147 amino acids and a molecular mass of approx. 16.5 kDa. APPLICATION: FGF-basic is a critical component of hESCs culture medium; the growth factor is necessary for the cells to remain in an undifferentiated state. As a result, FGF2 has been used to develop chemically-defined, serum-free and feeder-free hESCs culture mediums. FORMULATION: Sterile filtered white powder lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in PBS, pH 7.4. PURITY: Greater than 97.0% (RP-HPLC; SDS PAGE). BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY: The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using murine balb/c 3T3 cells is < 0.1 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1.0 ×107IU/mg.
