Brucella Agar with 5% Horse Blood is an enriched, non selective medium designed for the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms including Helicobacter pylori and certain anaerobic bacteria. Each sterile 100 × 15 mm plate contains 20 mL of Brucella agar base composed of tryptone, peptones, yeast extract, and dextrose, supplemented with 5% defibrinated horse blood. This formulation supplies essential nutrients and growth factors required by demanding organisms that may not grow well on standard blood agar. The horse blood enrichment also allows observation of subtle hemolytic patterns that aid preliminary differentiation of organisms. The medium supports growth of bacteria such as Brucella, Campylobacter, and Helicobacter species and is widely used in clinical and research microbiology laboratories.
