Native, platelet membrane glycoprotein IIbIIIaA from human platelets

  • Platelet integrin that binds to fibrinogen via recognition sequence Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser
  • Acts as receptor for such adhesive ligands as fibrinogen, fibronectin and von Willebrand factor during platelet stimulation
  • Glycoproteins IIb and IIIa constitute fibrinogen receptor
  • Required for platelet aggregation
  • Glycoprotein IIb consists of two disulfide-linked subunits, GPIIbα, and GPIIbβ, whereas GPIIIa has only one polypeptide chain
