Our Castroviejo Needle Holders feature fine tips for grasping and manipulation of small, delicate needles. The jaws can either be serrated (cross-hatched) or smooth. Serrated jaws help prevent slippage and ensures a secure grip on the needle, though this may not always be required. With fragile tissues, a serrated tip may cause excessive trauma or damage to the tissue, and a smooth tip may be preferred. Some synthetic sutures, such as polypropylene or PTFE, are less prone to slipping than natural sutures and may not require a serrated tip. If a surgeon is approximating a delicate tissue layer, a smooth tip may be chosen. The locking mechanism on the spring handles ensures the needle is held firmly and reduces the risk of slipping.
