Cycloserine-Cefoxitin Fructose Agar (CCFA) is an enriched selective & differential media used for the isolation & presumptive identification of C. difficile. This media is prepared, stored, & dispensed under oxygen-free conditions to prevent the formation of oxidized products prior to use.CCFA is an enriched selective & differential media used for the isolation of C. difficile. The nutritive base consists of animal peptones & fructose, & is supplemented w/ cefoxitin & cycloserine at concentrations that inhibit the growth of most normal fecal flora. Cycloserine will inhibit gram-negative bacteria, while cefoxitin will inhibit both gram-positive & gram-negative organisms. C. difficile is not inhibited on CCFA, & will exhibit a yellow, ground-glass colonial morphology. Neutral red is added as a pH indicator.
