This LB agar variant contains chloramphenicol, a bacteriostatic antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. By incorporating chloramphenicol into the LB agar, this medium selectively promotes the growth of chloramphenicol-resistant bacterial strains, making it ideal for the maintenance of recombinant DNA constructs and other molecular biology applications.
