Amyloid b-Protein (1-40) L34V, Amyloid b-Protein (1-40) Piedmont Mutation. Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a common finding in Alzheimer’s disease in which amyloid-Ab vascular deposits are featured in >80% of the cases. Mutations in the positions 21-23 (e.g. Dutch mutation E22Q) are primarily associated with CAA, although they manifest with strikingly different clinical phenotypes: cerebral hemorrhage or dementia. The Piedmont L34V Ab mutant, located outside this hot spot, shows a similar hemorrhagic phenotype, albeit less aggressive than the widely studied Dutch variant.
