Norpropoxyphene is a major urinary metabolite of propoxyphene, an opioid analgesic drug used for the treatment of pain. Norpropoxyphene's toxicity makes the parent drug more likely to cause death from overdose compared to similar mild opioid analgesics. Suitable use of this stable-labeled internal standard includes quantitation of norpropoxyphene levels by GC/MS or LC/MS in testing applications such as clinical toxicology, urine drug testing, isotope dilution methods or pain prescription monitoring.
