Cetrimide Agar / Mannitol Salt Agar Biplate is a dual medium plate designed for simultaneous screening of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The divided plate format allows two selective media to be used within a single petri dish, increasing efficiency during microbiological testing. The Cetrimide Agar section selectively isolates Pseudomonas aeruginosa through the inhibitory action of cetrimide and promotes production of characteristic pigments such as pyocyanin and pyoverdin. The Mannitol Salt Agar section contains high sodium chloride levels that select for staphylococci while differentiating organisms based on mannitol fermentation. Staphylococcus aureus typically produces yellow colonies due to acid formation. This biplate system allows laboratories to screen samples for both organisms simultaneously while conserving incubator space and materials.
