CGP 3466B maleate (CAS 200189-97-5) is a structural derivative of R-( )-Deprenyl but has negligible monoamine oxidase-B inhibitory activity It acts as a neuroprotective agent through inhibition of apoptotic cell death pathways In vitro studies demonstrate that CGP 3466B prevents apoptosis in human neuroblastoma cells PC-12 cells and cerebellar granule cells exposed to cytosine arabinoside In vivo data from the pmn/pmn mouse model of motor neuron disease showed that oral administration of CGP 3466B delayed disease progression maintained motor function and significantly extended survival CGP 3466B is thus under investigation as a potential therapeutic for neurodegenerative conditions
