Collagens contribute to mechanical properties, organization, and shape of tissues. Collagen is the most widely used ECM protein for cell culture, facilitating cell attachment, growth, differentiation, migration, and tissue morphogenesis. Type I Collagen is by far the most abundant protein in all vertebrates. It assembles into fibers that form the structural and mechanical scaffold (matrix) of bone, skin, tendons, cornea, blood vessel walls and other connective tissues. Type I collagen consists of two ?1(I) chains and one ?2(I) chain.
