Concanavalin A (agarose) is comprised of Concanavalin A (ConA) conjugated with agarose. ConA is a selective competitive binder that targets specific carbohydrate structures of glucose and mannose. It can induce mitosis and exhibits certain cytotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and teratogenicity. Concanavalin A (agarose) has applications in in vivo blood glucose monitoring for diabetes, as well as for isolating specific glycoproteins or removing sugar impurities from complex samples.
- Primarily used for protein purification from complex samples, such as cytokines, membrane proteins, and serum glycoproteins.
- Can be used for removing unwanted glycoprotein impurities from samples.
- Useful for studying the interaction strength between glycoproteins and ConA, for example, under various elution conditions.
