Cortisone (17-Hydroxy-11-dehydrocorticosterone) is an oxidized metabolite of Cortisol, a Glucocorticoid. It functions as an immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory agent. Cortisone can partially intervene in the binding of Glucocorticoid to the Glucocorticoid-receptor at high concentrations, and has been shown to attenuate apoptosis induced by Cortisol in peripheral-blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and decrease BCG lesions and tuberculin reactions in rabbits.
